Antarctic Press has been a leader in American Manga for close to 20 years and as an independent comic book company they have always produced quality comics that fly way to low under the radar of the mainstream comic book community.

One of the new comics to come out this year is great little comic called Sky Sharks. It is the story of a time when airplanes ruled the skies and piloted by pirates, heroes and thrill seekers alike.

The Sky Sharks are a group of people that act as aerial bodyguards for people that wish to transport goods through the blue skies. All of the regulars are here, you have the brash youth who is the main star of the story, the old timer who wants to make sure that everyone in his team is ok and misses his glory days, and you have the female vixen who is the villain and wants to make sure the Sky Sharks go down in flames. There is even a mad scientist thrown in for good measure.

All in all this is an fun series that is a solid read and with issue three on the stands the action begins to ramp up because the last two issues were used to introduce the characters and the world. So sit back and enjoy the aerial dogfights, the double crosses and the hero that always gets his girl.

Enjoy.

Star-lord _1   Star-lord #1-4

This is one of the best mini’s to come out of the second wave of mini's from the two year event titled Annihilation.

The mini is a about a ragtag group of aliens convicted by the Kree and sentenced to run a suicide mission with the legendary Star-lord leading. This mission takes them to a Kree planet that is infested with Hordes of the Phalanx who are testing a population destroying bomb. There mission destroy the bomb at any cost.

True the story sounds like an episode of the A-team but every character works so well that you forget that you can guess the ending a mile away. It also helps that Giffen is smart enough to throw in a couple of twist so then ending is still a good pay off.

Giffen uses the C-list alien characters like Captain Universe, Mantis, Deathcry, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, and Bug from the Micronauts and makes you care about what’s going to happen to them.

The other thing this series has going for it is the art by Green. This man is a fantastic artist and should be one of the next “young guns” at Marvel. His lines are clean and the action is well translated. This is the perfect example of a writer/ artist team working in tandem to create something fantastic.

So pick it up already!
