Man o man I love me some Wonder Girl!

If you are just joining us I did a review of the first issue of Wonder Girls limited six issue series. Click the link below and read it…I’ll wait…

   All caught up? Good.

Ok, first off I love the art style and I have been a big fan of Sanford Greene's art for a long time now. So for me the art is fine and I feel it helps illustrate the story perfectly.
And what a story it is. So most of the issue is really Hercules’ attempt to show (by talking for most of the issue) Cassie that they are really related and that blood is thicker then water. Hercules makes a pretty strong case by telling her that they are bound together by the blood of the gods. I also liked that they took the time to actually show Hercules talk to Cassie and really trying to convince that they are family but that they are family. This is the kind of character development I have been asking for. Thank you DC.
Also, Hercules makes it apparent that it only seems that Diana or Donna only want to deal with Cassie when they need her to help kick some ass. Writers in the past might have tried to show the family connection between the three of these ladies but it has never worked in my opinion.
Also as a show of affection to his half sister, Herc gives Cassie a new costume…Finally.
I actually like the costume even though I thought I wouldn’t I like that her costume is reminiscent of his and it helps show the connection they share.
But of course Ol’Herc will probably revert back to type and try to kill her at the end but I hope not I really like that fact that DC is trying to round out this character and I hope Herc sticks around for awhile because he seems to be the only one that is actually talking to Cassie as a person.
So yes this was a talking heads issue but I feel this is necessary sometimes so characters can be fleshed out and for me it makes for a more enjoyable read.
Never fear though because at the end a few villainesses show up to give the sibling a hard time. So look for an all action issue next.

sinbad_01   Sinbad – Rogue of Mars #1

Blue Water Comics is a new independent comic company that is really producing some interesting comics.
Sinbad – Rogue of Mars is an out of the ordinary comic that has fused the sea faring sailor Sinbad with John Carpenters of Mars.
The comic starts out with Sinbad being held as a slave in a gladiator’s arena. The action comes quick as he is thrown into combat for the amusement of a strange brother and sister team who are obviously the villains because later in the issue he tells the tale of how he became the ruler mostly by killing his way to the top.
So for the most part the issue is doesn’t really give a lot of back story and as a reader we you really have to invest a lot of time into this comic because unlike most first issues in which the read is told everything they need to know about the story, characters and plot this one leaves the writer with a lot of questions.
This is not necessarily a bad thing but because what the writer does do is talk about a prophecy and makes connections to Sinbad being a part of that prophecy.
Another good thing about this first issue is the art. “Chumba” really is a good artist and it helps that he is also the colorist because I feel that after looking at this comic he took a lot of time on the art and has really striking angles and panel work.
As most number ones go this was pretty solid. It gave the read just enough story to get them to come back for another issue and if not for the story, then the fantastic art.
